Social Studies The Social Studies Curriculum focuses on citizenship, holidy traditions, names in
history, and current events. The curriculum will be revised for publication this year.
Language Arts The Kindergarten Language Arts Curriculum is a balanced program including
reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Poetry charts and Big Books provide an
opportunity for shared and choral reading. In November, students begin reading a
collection of leveled Rigby books. Project Read techniques are used to develop sight
words and phonics. Rereading play scripts allow students to develop expression,
phrasing, and comprehension. Skills studied include identification of uppercase and
lowercase letters and sounds, hearing and recording sounds in words (spelling), and
reading and recording kindergarten core words. The curriculum will be revised for
publication this year.
